A team from the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) is set to arrive in the territory on Monday, April 17, to observe the April 24 General Election in the BVI.
This was confirmed by Governor His Excellency John Rankin via a statement on Friday, which said he invited the association following consultation with Premier Dr. the Hon. Natalio Wheatley and Opposition Leader Hon. Julian Fraser.
Their visit which will end on April 27, will mark their fourth election observed in the territory since 2011.
“The Mission is an independent team of eight international observers, composed of parliamentarians, officials and analysts who will evaluate whether the electoral process adheres to international obligations and domestic laws,” Governor Rankin stated.
He added, “The CPA Mission have begun to reach out to key stakeholders including officials, candidates, civil society, and members of the public, and meetings will take place in advance of the General Election.”
The governor said a statement will be forthcoming by the association following their arrival in the BVI.
He also revealed that initial findings from their observations will be published on April 26, with the final report and recommendations to be published and made publicly available within two months following the April 24 election date.
