80 yards of concrete were poured in just under three hours at the Joint Marine Shore Base Building, Manuel Reef, Tortola.
The concrete pour marks the completion of the foundation works, the substructure phase of the building. Works will now switch to the superstructure with the construction of block and column work for the ground floor.
To date all works have been implemented in accordance with the Construction Drawings and Technical Specifications.
Project Manager Alicia Joseph said, “We are cultivating relationships with the client and stakeholders to deliver a building that is conducive for all occupants in the delivering the Territory’s border security agenda”.
The project requirements include the construction of a new two-story reinforced concrete building measuring 5,656.00 sq. ft gross, and auxiliary works to include a sewer treatment system, boat rack platform, and civil works.
This site will be the home for the joint operations of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, His Majesty’s Customs and the Immigration Departments to protect the Territory’s borders from illegal immigration, narcotics smuggling and illegal importation.
The project is estimated to be completed in February 2024. The construction of the new Joint Marine Shore Base Building, its infrastructure and boat storage platform is a continuation of the RDA’s Security and Safety for All subsector of its Good Governance Programme.
This project is jointly funded by the Government of the Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom Office through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
