After a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions, Leverick Bay Resort and Marina is excited to welcome all sponsors, participants and guests back to the 19th Annual Leverick Bay Poker Run, this coming Sunday, May 28th, 2023.
Organizers of the Leverick Bay Poker Run say they are excited to have new stops on this year’s Poker Run, including Loose Mongoose and Saba Rock, and that they are grateful for the continued support of Pirate’s on Norman Island, Foxy’s Taboo on Jost Van Dyke, and the Tortola Pier Park. Organizers say the event would not be possible without the support from these venues. The after party at Leverick Bay is powered by Mr. Nice Guy and begins at 5pm with the Fashion Show and followed by buffet, drinks, and the prize giving ceremony at 7pm.
In 2019, organizers welcomed a record number of participants to the Poker Run, with approximately 150 boats in attendance and a crowd of some 2,000 guests at Leverick Bay, with more spectators at each stop across the territory. It is anticipated that 2023 will be an even bigger year, as everyone is once again welcomed back after a long hiatus.
In an official comment organizers said, “An enormous thank-you to sponsors and volunteers, who generously gave their time, sponsorship dollars and in-kind gifts – without them the event could not happen. Volunteers Nick and Monica Willis founded the event in 2001, and the checkered flag has been passed to Alex Yates and Joel Brillert, who look forward to welcoming you in 2023.”
Net proceeds from the event will be distributed to the Virgin Gorda Charitable Trust, who in turn will make announcements regarding additional contributions to local charities including the Animal Rescue Control of Virgin Gorda and others. In 2019, a donation of $31,000 was given to the Trust, with cumulative donations exceeding $155,000 USD since the inception of the event. Prize giving of $16,000 was distributed to three winners.
