MILLIONS TUNED IN TO WATCH THE KING’S CORONATION – BVI HELD A 21-GUN SALUTE IN HONOUR

Tens of millions of people tuned in on Saturday to watch the historic coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey in London.

The two-hour ceremony which also saw his wife Queen Camilla being crowned, was broadcasted across a range of channels with viewing reportedly peaking at 20.4 million.

It began at approximately 10:00 a.m. British Summer Time (BST), with the procession to Westminster Abbey in the horse-drawn Diamond Jubilee State Coach where thousands of persons cheered on as the King made his way through an honour guard consisting of 1000 members of the British Armed Forces.

After the crown was placed on the King’s head, cries of “God Save the King” were chanted from both inside and outside of Westminster Abbey, and gun salutes were made across the United Kingdom.

Here in the British Virgin Islands, the Governor’s Office held an event entitled the Kings Coronation Brunch to commemorate the historic occasion.

At the ceremony, Acting Governor David Archer Jr. recited a letter from King Charles, which was penned to address the territory.

Subsequently, members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force made a 21-gun salute to honour the King’s Coronation.
