COMPLAINTS TRIBUNAL HEAD SPEAKS “PUBLIC CONFIDENCE” ON LOCAL TALKSHOW

How will people gain confidence in the Financial Services Complaints Tribunal without access to information on its processes or the success rates of its mitigation?

That was a question posed to the Tribunal’s Chairman Jack Husbands as he featured as a guest on the Talking Points talk show.

While he admitted that no mechanisms currently exist to facilitate public access to such information, Husbands said that this could be an area worth exploring amid increased calls for openness and transparency in the Virgin Islands.

The discussions that day led to several suggestions for the Tribunal to consider, including possibly establishing a registry where members of the public could find information on institutions frequently brought to the Tribunal.

He added, however, that a greater openness with the process may result in some entities being reluctant to participate in the due process.

Husbands explained further that the goal is to have issues resolved amicably.
He also called for more media involvement in ensuring members of the public are informed on the role and services of the Tribunal.
