Meaningful debate was the essence of discussions on the May 8th edition of the “Talking Points” Radio Programme as hosts and guest alike shared their views on the topic of the impending same sex marriage referendum in the Virgin Islands.
Guest Mrs Maris Hodge Wright was the first to establish her point of view, stating that while she is a christian, she is also a citizen who believes that taxpayers should be protected by the laws of their country.
Her views were supported by Co-Host Damion Grange. Grange shared that from his perspective this is a matter of human rights.
Host Violet Thomas-Gaul offered a bit of contrast in her position on the matter, sparking debate among those present as she shared her views.
Debates ensued as some challenged whether a referendum on same sex marriage was the right course of action.
For certain, there was a consensus among the hosts and guest that the church should not be forced to adapt to any accommodations that could possibly be made to recognize same sex marriage.
