HISTORY CREATED AS THE BVI FIELD A TEAM FOR THE U23 PANAM GAMES BEACH VOLLEYBALL QUALIFIER

For the first time in British Virgin Islands history a team consisting of J’adon George and Jaroy Daley will be representing the territory in an Under 23 Junior Panam Games Qualifier which begins today.

This year’s qualifier is hosted by the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) and is set to take place in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

The team which is sponsored by Nova Vita Apparel is led by Coach Reno Morton and was trained by Valissia Brathwaite.

Both George and Daley departed the territory on Thursday, June 1.

Providing insight into the competition was Vice President of the Virgin Islands Volleyball Association Tamisha Georges, who spoke on the significance of the territory’s participation in this tournament.

Georges also said that for the past two months both George and Daley have been training for the tournament.

The vice president further revealed that NORCECA’s mandate to develop beach volleyball in the region extends to benefitting the BVI, with the territory expected to receive a world-class qualifying coach to train local coaches and volleyball players.

Some 24 countries will be represented at the qualifier and include Dominica, Antigua, Cuba, Guatemala, St. Kitts and Nevis, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua.
