AMERICAN AIRLINES TO FURTHER INCREASE DAILY FLIGHTS TO MIAMI

The British Virgin Islands Airports Authority (BVIAA) is happy to advise that just two weeks into its new direct service between Miami and the BVI, American Airlines (AA) has announced that it will be doubling the number of flights to the Territory for the winter season, which starts in December.

The announcement was made in a release published on AA’s website earlier today. Commencing December 2023, AA will increase flights on the new direct route from once daily to twice daily.

According to Managing Director of the BVIAA, Mr. Kurt Menal, “This latest development demonstrates a high level of confidence in the BVI as a top tourism destination which is in high demand. It also demonstrates confidence in the capabilities of the BVIAA to handle increased number of flights and greater passenger movements, and to provide quality service to travelers.”

AA launched its historical daily direct service between the BVI and Miami on 1 June, 2023. Due to high demand, the airline was moved to schedule five additional flights for the month of June even before its inaugural flight took place.

Based on the airline’s initial schedule, AA’s direct service was projected to increase passenger movements at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (TBLIA) in 2023 by over 19,000 passengers.

However, the latest announcement would see AA increase passenger movements by over 22,000 passengers. Based on the recovery of the global tourism and travel industry and the introduction of new services such as the AA direct flight to Miami, the BVIAA had initially projected an increase in passenger movements by over 40 per cent for this year over 2022 figures.

The increase in AA’s scheduled flights will have a further positive impact on passenger movements at TBLIA.
