BVI SWIM SCHOOL STUDENTS EXCEL AT OPEN MEET IN ST THOMAS, USVI

The talented swimmers of the BVI Swim School showcased their skills at an open swim meet held in St Thomas, USVI on Saturday, June 17th. The event saw 12 swimmers from the school compete in various races, achieving outstanding results and setting new personal best times.

The open meet format eliminated age groups, allowing swimmers of all ages to compete against each other. Despite the intense competition, the BVI swimmers demonstrated their exceptional abilities and secured several top finishes throughout the day.

One of the standout performances came from Lily Carey, a 10-year-old swimmer who finished 3rd in the Girls 50m Freestyle event with an impressive time of 44.81 seconds. Niklaus Vergel, 14, also showcased his skills and achieved a personal milestone by reaching his first B goal time in the Boys 50m Freestyle, finishing 5th overall with a time of 31.44 seconds.

Eljay, another 14-year-old swimmer, displayed his prowess in the Boys 100m Breaststroke, securing a 2nd place finish with a time of 1:53.99. Jack Morris, 15, made a remarkable splash in the Boys 50m Butterfly, clinching the 1st place spot with a time of 37.48 seconds.

The BVI Swim School’s female swimmers also delivered impressive performances in the Girls 100m Freestyle event. Lily Carey finished 2nd with a time of 1:56.25, closely followed by 9-year-old Hannah Kazembe, who secured 3rd place with a time of 1:56.75. Niklaus Vergel continued to shine in the Boys 100m Freestyle, claiming the 2nd place with a time of 1:23.39.

In the Boys 8 & Under 25m Freestyle, Arun Bissoondutt showcased his talent and secured 2nd place with a time of 21.26 seconds, while 7-year-old William Vergel displayed his skills and finished 3rd with a time of 24.27 seconds.

Other notable achievements included Samantha Vergel, 13, who finished 3rd in the Girls 50m Backstroke with a time of 54.62 seconds, and Niklaus Vergel, who continued to impress in the Boys 50m Backstroke, securing 2nd place with a time of 40.81 seconds. Jack Morris completed the Boys 200m Freestyle event with a strong performance, finishing 2nd with a time of 3:00.44.
