PUBLIC NEEDS TO BE EDUCATED ON THEIR ROLE IN THE SUCCESS OF SEWERAGE SYSTEMS

Local business owner Patrick Mitchell of BioSafe Treatment & Septic Solutions has called for an educational programme to raise public awareness about the role of the average citizen in the success of the Territory’s sewerage systems.

Speaking about the upcoming works on the Long Swamp Pump Station for which his company recently signed a contract with the Government of the Virgin Islands, Mitchell emphasised the importance of active community involvement in ensuring the effectiveness and longevity of the new infrastructure.

Mitchell further stressed that proper waste disposal practices play a significant role in supporting the success of sewerage systems. He specifically urged the introduction of more biodegradable washing products for use in laundromats. This step will help prevent the accumulation of by-products that could potentially impede the systems’ functionality.

Highlighting the benefits of well-functioning sewerage systems, Mitchell emphasised that the entire community stands to gain when these systems operate effectively. He emphasized the need for collective effort and collaboration in ensuring the long-term success of the infrastructure.
