IT’S AN INVESTMENT – SSB DIRECTOR SAYS RENTING HOUSING UNITS IS ALLOWED

BVIslanders who are interested in purchasing units from the Joe’s Hill Manor Estate for the purpose of renting are allowed to do so under the new requirements of the Social Security Board (SSB).

Prior to June 1, 2023, to qualify for units at the Estate, applicants had to be a BVIslander, a first-time homeowner and were purchasing the unit to use the home as their intended primary residence.

However, under the new requirements, an applicant only needs to be a BVIslander to qualify for purchasing one of the 52 units.

Director of the SSB, Mrs. Jeanette Scatliffe-Boynes in a recent interview with 284 Media said by removing the previous stipulations, applicants will now be allowed to purchase units for investment purposes such as for renting.

Scatliffe-Boynes also assured the public that there are systems in place to ensure that the ease of requirements to gain ownership of the units is not abused.
