GOVT URGED TO SETTLE DEBT WITH BVIEC – OWES IN EXCESS OF $10M

Opposition legislator Hon. Marlon Penn is urging the government to settle its debt with the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC), claiming that it is owed in excess of $10 million.

At the time of Penn’s comment, he was speaking during a debate in the House of Assembly, in favour of a motion to appoint Mr. Sheldon Scatliffe as the new chairman of the Board of the BVIEC.

Penn also urged the BVIEC to find innovative ways of conducting business in the territory as it is the corporation’s responsibility to ensure that it is operating efficiently.

As it pertains to Scatliffe’s appointment, Penn said he is the right option to lead the BVIEC’s Board.
