Minister for Education, the Honourable Sharie DeCastro, and her team recently conducted a visit to the JVD Multi-Purpose Educational Facility site, facilitated by the Recovery and Development Agency (RDA), which is responsible for overseeing the ongoing project.
The JVD Multi-Purpose Educational Facility is one of the several projects being carried out by the RDA as part of its mission to build a stronger, smarter, greener, and better British Virgin Islands. The RDA has been assigned the task of implementing various projects and programs across the Territory, focusing on key sectors and measured outcomes outlined in the Recovery to Development Plan.
The construction of the JVD School aligns with the objectives of the “Cohesive and Empowered Society” sector, guided by the outcome statement: “An education system that is modern and well-resourced, providing opportunities for a highly skilled, globally competitive population that can participate and contribute to a sustainable Virgin Islands economy.”
Once completed, the JVD Primary School & Multipurpose Educational Facility will feature 13 classrooms, a science lab, a computer lab, a music room, a staff room, a kitchen, bathroom facilities, a principal’s office, storage rooms, a learning resource centre, and a 75 thousand-gallon cistern capacity. In addition to serving as a school, the facility will also serve as a recreational space and a meeting venue for community activities.
The visit by Minister DeCastro and her team aimed to assess the progress of the project and ensure that it aligns with the vision for a modern and well-equipped educational facility. The construction of the JVD Multi-Purpose Educational Facility signifies a significant step towards providing an enhanced educational experience for the students of Jost Van Dyke and creating a space that benefits the entire community.
