BVI TEAM COMPETES IN SQUASH DOUBLES FOR THE FIRST TIME – LOSS BOTH GAMES

The BVI team dropped both matches in the doubles category of the Junior Caribbean Squash Championships in St. Vincent on Tuesday.

The mixed duo of Darci Reich and Zevieh Abraham (BVI) fell to Barbados’ Joanna Atkins and Dominic Wilson 11-4, 11-7.

In the Boys’ Doubles, Alex Stewart and Aidan Parris of Barbados defeated Oliver Henderson and Daniel Henderson of the BVI 11-2, 11-4.

National Squash Coach Adam Murrills said this was the junior’s first time playing in the doubles format.

“Doubles is played in a best of 3 format. Usually, one player from each team covers one side of the court. Having 4 players within a small confined area makes it a very gladiatorial sport. The tight-knit nature of it makes the positional sense of the players extremely important,” Murrils stated.

He added, “Both of the Barbados pairings, unfortunately, proved too strong for our BVI teams in the doubles matches today.”

Attention will be placed on the Team Event which commences on Thursday.

Earlier in the week on Monday, Delilah Pease and Ethan Mohamed both collected the first silver medals for the BVI from the competition in approximately 14 years.

The 8-year-old Pease fell to the number-one seed Gia Ghuran of Trinidad and Tobago 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 in the Girls Under 11 category, while in the boys, Mohamed fell to the number one seed Ben Shepherd of Barbados in his final, 11-1, 11-5, 11-3.
