Shortly after 7am this morning Wednesday July 19th, 2023, Deputy Governor of the Virgin Islands David D. Archer Jr. along with the Financial Secretary of the Virgin Islands Mr. Jeremiah Frett meet with senior staff of HM Customs.
It was reported from senior officials within the agency that staff of HM Customs had planned a sick out for today. The Deputy Governor was made aware of the planned strike and as such held an emergency meeting.
It is unclear as to what transpired in the meeting and whether staff demands were meet.
Similar to other Government departments, sources close to the situation have stated that staff grievances stem from members of staff being aggrieved with working conditions and owed increments.
The frustrated staff members had planned a sick-out today.
