SEA COW’S BAY BASKETBALL CLUB RECEIVES $18K GRANT TO FUND NEW 3X3 PROGRAMME

The Sea Cow’s Bay Basketball Club received a grant of $18,000 from the BVI Olympic Committee (BVIOC) to assist with the development of the club’s new 3×3 basketball programme.

The programme was launched at the Sea Cow’s Bay basketball court on Tuesday, July 25 and is available to boys and girls across the territory who are 9-14 years old.

President of the BVI Olympic Committee, Ephraim Penn, said the funds derive from an initiative of Panam Sports and the Olympic Solidarity Commission.

Penn explained why the BVIOC selected the Sea Cow’s Bay Basketball Club as the recipient of the grant.

He also revealed that one of his organisation’s main goals is to field a strong 3×3 basketball team for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games which will be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

President Penn also said that he hopes the programme encourages more persons, especially females, to get involved in this new variation of basketball.

President of the BVI Basketball Federation, Derrick Varlack, left some encouraging words for the children in the programme.

Meanwhile, founder of the Sea Cow’s Bay Basketball Club, Milton McLean, provided details of the programme.

He also revealed that the programme will have several zones that will cover most of the districts in the territory.
