During a press engagement earlier this week, Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio Wheatley provided an update on his government’s intention to bring forth the territory’s first referendum.
The Premier, who recently announced that the resolution for the referendum had been gazetted, said that there is significant legislative work that needs to take place before the event becomes a reality.
Some of these changes, he said, will be to the Elections Act.
Premier Wheatley went on to explain that a significant hurdle has to do with the fact that the Referendum Act pre-dates the Territory’s transition to an electronic voting system.
