National Early Warning Multi-hazard Alert System Test Scheduled for August 25th

The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) has announced that this month’s test of the National Early Warning Multi-hazard Alert System will take place on Friday, August 25th.

As per the DDM’s standard practice, the test will occur on the fourth Friday of the month.

While no immediate action is required from the public during this test, it presents a valuable opportunity for individuals and communities to assess and refine their emergency procedures.

The DDM encourages everyone to participate actively, regardless of their location.

The National Early Warning Multi-hazard Alert System test will involve the activation of emergency sirens, which serve as a signal for residents to tune in to their local radio stations or access the DDM website, app, and social media accounts. These platforms will provide comprehensive safety information and instructions in the event of a real emergency.

During the test, the system’s equipment will emit a sound lasting for 60 seconds. This sound will vary from what would be heard during an actual emergency, where the sirens would continue to sound continuously until the situation is resolved. The purpose of the test is to familiarize the public with the alert system and ensure its effectiveness.
