Halstead “JR” Chiverton has attributed his lifestyle change to his cousin Samuel France who he said kept it real with him approximately a decade ago after seeing the trajectory his life was taking.
At the time of the exchange between the two cousins, Chiverton was widely known for his basketball talent – representing the national team on numerous occasions – and for being a “hothead” or troublemaker.
It was during a one-on-one basketball game between the cousins that led to France enlightening Chiverton on how his actions negatively impacted the family and the reputational damage he was causing.
Chiverton said it was at that very moment that he knew he had to make serious adjustments to his approach to life.
JR said the advice from France inspired him to take the then teenage D’Moi Hodge under his wing as a means to reverse the reputation he had created by doing something positive for a change.
He said those of wisdom saved his life.
Chiverton also advised residents who possess the same mentality that he once did to change that behaviour today.
He said such a lifestyle will only lead people down a treacherous road.
