The Department of Disaster Management has reported that the system previously known as Tropical Cyclone AL95 has strengthened, becoming the Tropical Depression 13.
The system is currently being tracked across the Atlantic Ocean as it makes its approach to the region.
Tropical Depression 13 threatens to bring heavy rainfall, about 1-3 inches, and gusty winds to the Virgin Islands by Sunday.
According to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center, the depression was located about 1,674 miles southeast of Road Town, moving west-northwest at 15 mph. It had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.
The DDM reported that any further movement south of the system could result in tropical storm force winds and higher levels of rainfall.
However, there is still a lot of uncertainty about the exact path and intensity of the storm, as it could shift further south or north.
Residents are advised to closely monitor the development of the storm and have their emergency plans ready to activate if needed.
