PREMIER UPDATES ON OUTLOOK FOR COI IMPLEMENTATION

While recognizing the urgency of the process of implementing the reforms outlined in the Framework for the Implementation of the Recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry Report and Other Reforms, Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio Wheatley underscored that such an intricate process should not be rushed to the point where there are skipped steps.

At the time he spoke, the Premier was responding to a question posed by Leader of the Opposition the Honourable Ronnie Skelton which challenged him to share his vision for the COI implementation and the difficulties in that process.

The Premier went on to share his outlook for the implementation timeline. At this time, he described the 2-year timeline for the total completion of the reforms as disingenuous.

Noting the nature of the implementation process, the Premier reflected on how it has impacted the daily functioning of the Public Service, whose workers have had to take on a balancing act due to the limited time and resources they have had to act within to meet deadlines.

While policy development and execution are important, he said, such processes can take away from the necessary work of each ministry.

He added that, at this time, the onus is on the government and House of Assembly to approach the tasks at hand with ingenuity and resourcefulness.
