The Ministry of Education is actively exploring the option of partnering with universities and educational institutions within the region to recruit competent and qualified teachers for the territory.
Education Minister, Hon. Sharie De Castro made the announcement in the House of Assembly recently in response to questions posed by Deputy Speaker, Hon. Stacey Mather.
De Castro was asked what special efforts were being made by her ministry to recruit qualified teachers from overseas.
The minister also touched on the efforts of her ministry in building the local teaching pool which she said will reduce the level of dependence on foreign teachers.
The ministry’s recently launched Let’s Teach VI programme was praised by the minister as being a success after it contributed to the hiring of 27 new educators for 2023-2024 academic school year.
Of that sum, 10 were teacher trainees and the remaining 17, teacher recruits.
According to De Castro, only 15 teaching vacancies remain after a total of 44 vacancies were filled ahead of this academic school year.
