Professional footballer Luka Chalwell is set to become the next VI Bassador for his multiple achievements in the discipline.
Chalwell who represents the BVI men’s senior football team helped his side to their first ever CONCACAF Nations League win on Saturday, netting 2 of the 3 goals scored for the territory.
He recently created more history for the BVI after becoming the first born BVIslander to play professional football, following his signing to the English National League with Eastleigh Football Club.
Making the announcement of Luka’s latest accolade was Premier Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley in an exclusive interview with 284 Media.
Premier Wheatley said the full details of the VI Bassador programme will be phased out to the public in the coming weeks to enlighten residents on the criteria that must be met to qualify for the honour.
Present among the officials who were at A. O. Shirley Recreation Ground to view the historic game between the BVI and the Turks and Caicos Islands, the premier gave his account of the national side’s performance.
In late July 2023, Premier Wheatley named Los Angeles Lakers Guard D’Moi Hodge as the territory’s first VI Bassador for his achievement of becoming the first person from the BVI to sign to an NBA team.
Hodge received $20,000 from the Virgin Islands Government for the honour.
