LIONS CLUB OF TORTOLA SPONSORS LIONS INTERNATIONAL PEACE POSTER CONTEST

For over three decades, Lions Clubs around the globe have been sponsoring a very special art contest in schools and youth groups, the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Today, Lions Club of Tortola is gearing up to launch the contest in our local BVI community.

Creating peace posters gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity. The contest will give children from 11 – 13 years old the opportunity to display their interpretation of what Peace means to them through this year’s theme “Dare to Dream”. By entering this contest, local students are joining more than 600,000 children from around the world in sharing their vision of world peace.  Lions Club of Tortola is eager to see how each participant interprets the theme and show how they’ll turn their dream of a peaceful world into reality.

The contest would be administered through local schools and youth groups with a submission deadline of October 27th, 2023, to receive entries. The local competition would be judged by professionals and artists with prizes to be awarded to students placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and to the school with the winning entry.

Posters will be evaluated on three criteria at each level of judging: originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme “Dare to Dream.” The contest winner will be recognized by Lions Club of Tortola and the winning poster will advance to the next level of judging at the District Level. The international grand prize winner will receive a cash prize along with a trip for themselves and two family members or guardians to the Lions Clubs International Convention.

The International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September and is dedicated to strengthening the idea of peace, educating people about the importance of coexistence and conflict prevention and fostering a non-violent culture. It encourages individuals and communities to work towards more peaceful solutions.

Please contact your school, youth group or tortolalions@gmail.com, for the official contest rules and conditions. Lions Club of Tortola has been serving the local community for the past fifty-one years. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at the BVI Finance Conference Room, Cutlass Tower in Road Town.
