The BVI Football Association (BVIFA) is aiming to have over 500 students registered for this year’s BDO Schools Football League which is set to kick-off on Wednesday, October 11.
League Coordinator Cassandra “Coach Cass” Gregg made the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday, September 26, which was held to officially launch the 2023-2024 BDO Schools Football League.
She said the reception from the schools has been extremely promising, hence her projection of more than 500 participating students from the primary and high school levels.
With several of the primary school students graduating to high school, Coach Cass is confident that the numbers will increase at the high school level, to foster several teams in the respective age groups.
Coach Cass also issued a reminder to the respective schools that the closing date for receiving forms is Friday, September 28, 2023.
She urged the schools who have yet to submit their forms to the BVI Football Association to do so as soon as possible.
Appearing virtually at the press conference was President of the BVI Football Association, Andy Bickerton, who described the programme as a well-organised after-school initiative.
He highlighted the success of the programme by referencing the BVI senior football team, stating that 17 of the 25 national players passed through the programme.
BDO Managing Director, Ryan Geluk said his company is excited to be sponsoring the league, a venture that commenced more than a decade ago.
