PREMIER CALLS ON WORLD LEADERS TO RECOGNISE CLIMATE CHANGE AS AN EXISTENTIAL THREAT

With the Caribbean classified as being one of the most vulnerable regions to climate change, Premier and Minister responsible for Climate Change, Dr. the Hon. Natalio Wheatley has called for world leaders to recognise the phenomenon as an existential threat to the planet and to be proactive in its reversal.

Premier Wheatley made the comment during a recent interview on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Newsday radio programme with presenters Jeanne Scutner and Devina Gupta.

The premier was asked about his views regarding the decision by the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to reverse policies on the environment and climate change.

He responded by calling for nations which are contributing heavily to greenhouse gas emissions to be as ambitious as possible in meeting targets to reverse the ill effects of climate change.

Premier Wheatley also said that the threat of climate change must be kept in proper perspective with governments along with its citizens prioritising the fight against the phenomenon.
