The sport of volleyball will be returning to schools across the territory as part of the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports (DYAS) After School Grassroots Sports Programme.
The initiative is a joint partnership between DYAS and the Virgin Islands Volleyball Association.
Minister for Education, Sports and Youth Affairs, Hon. Sharie De Castro, made the announcement recently while welcoming the BVI women’s volleyball team back to the territory after they secured a bronze medal at the just concluded Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association U23 Women’s Championship in Dominica.
Speaking about the impact of such programmes was the President of the BVI Olympic Committee, Mr. Ephraim Penn, who said it will result in the strengthening of future national teams as more youths become involved.
