FORMER BVI GOVERNOR PETER PENFOLD HAS DIED AT THE AGE OF 79

The former Governor of the British Virgin Islands, Mr. Peter Penfold, has passed away at the age of 79.

The Office of the Governor confirmed the passing of Penfold in a media statement on Tuesday, revealing that he passed away on Monday, October 1.

“The British Virgin Islands held a special place in Penfold’s heart as it was here that he married wife Celia,” the Office of the Governor stated.

Penfold is the territory’s youngest serving British governor after he was appointed at the age of 48 in 1991 and served until 1996.

His career in diplomacy began in 1963 when he joined the British Foreign Service and he served in various capacities, with postings in West Germany, Nigeria, Mexico, and Sierra Leone.
