BVIslander Sharonda Pickering will be gearing up for her debut game of the Slovenia Cup on Saturday, October 7, after recently signing to new team OK Ankaran, to mark her second professional volleyball contract of her career.
Pickering spoke to 284 Media in an exclusive interview and shared the emotions that filled her body once she got the news of the offer in Slovenia.
The pro volleyballer also spoke on how the opportunity came about, revealing that it started from a vacation trip to Europe.
This is Pickering’s second professional contract since graduating from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2018. She previously played in Hungary in 2019 with Haladas VSE.
Speaking about her expectations this season, Pickering said she believes it will come with its challenges, but said her goal is to keep pushing herself to perform at the top of her game.
As it relates to her acclimatising to Slovenia which speaks Slovenian as its main language, Pickering foresees no major challenges since Slovenia’s education system ensures that most citizens are bilingual.
Pickering also left some words of advice for young BVIslanders who have an interest in volleyball. She said you must first start with believing in yourself.
