The British Virgin Islands volleyball team are now third in Pool A of the Men’s U23 Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Championships after suffering their first loss of the tournament on Thursday against pool leader Dominica.
Playing in game eight at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Road Town, Tortola, the BVI fell in three straight sets 13-25, 7-25, 13-25.
The BVI sits at third on the standings with 5 points after 1 win and 1 loss while the undefeated Dominica sits at first with 10 points. Sint Maarten which is also unbeaten sits at second with 9 points.
After the match Captain of the BVI team Kymal Panchoo and Head Coach Kwele Williams spoke to the media about the plans to bounce back from the defeat.
Also present was Dominica’s Captain Keaun Reefe and Head Coach Jeffrey Edmund. Both spoke about the victory and sustaining the undefeated run with two comprehensive 3-0 victories.
Meanwhile, in the first match of the morning session on Thursday, the Sint Maarten Volleyball team defeated Grenada in 4 sets, 25-18, 24-26, 25-17, 25-7.
In the second match, St. Kitts and Nevis overpowered St Vincent and the Grenadines in three straight sets. The scores were 25-22, 25-16, 25-22.
In the final game of the morning session, Antigua and Barbuda defeated Saba Volleyball Association in 4 sets. That game ended 25-21, 18-25, 25-23, 25-14.
In the evening session, Sint Maarten returned and enjoyed a second hard-fought victory this time against Anguilla, winning in three straight sets 30-28, 25-20, 25-21.
St Vincent and the Grenadines bounced back from their earlier loss to defeat St. Lucia 3-2, winning 23-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-22, 15-13.
The BVI’s next game will be this evening at 7:00 p.m. against Grenada.
