BVIOC PROUD OF THE SACRIFICE MADE BY ATHLETES AT PAN AM GAMES

President of the BVI Olympic Committee (BVIOC) Mr. Ephraim Penn has praised the four athletes who are representing the territory at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

During a recent interview with 284 Media’s Kamal Haynes, Penn said his Committee is extremely proud of the sacrifice made by the athletes at the 19th edition of the Games.

The BVI has four athletes at the Games. They are Deya Erickson in the 100-metre hurdles, Eldred Henry in the shot put, Djimon Gumbs in the discus throw and Thad Lettsome in sailing.

Penn started by highlighting the significance of having Lettsome at the Games to represent the territory in sailing.

Lettsome created history in July 2023, by becoming the first sailor from the BVI in 30 years to qualify for the Pan Am Games, after finishing sixth overall at the CAC Games in San Salvador.

President Penn also spoke about Olympian Eldred Henry who is considered to be a veteran in the discipline of shot put, boasting several records to his name.

He also touched on Gumbs and Erickson, stating that two athletes have been putting in the work to prepare for their respective disciplines for the Games.

Lettsome will be competing from October 28 to November 5, Gumbs on October 30, Erickson on October 31, and Henry on November 3.
