Thirty (30) public officers have completed a Preventative Maintenance Training, provided through the Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute (VIPSLI).
The training is the product of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked in July with the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC). Through the MoU, the institute and the HLSCC will partner to deliver critical training to public officers in various career groups.
The two-day training immersed maintenance personnel from throughout the Public Service into the area of preventative maintenance. Individuals were equipped with the knowledge, skills and were given hands-on experience with the best practices to proactively identify, prevent, and address maintenance issues in a systematic and efficient manner.
Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Sharleen DaBreo-Lettsome, MBE commented on the Government’s commitment to ensuring that public officers at all levels receive the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective in their roles.
Mrs. DaBreo-Lettsome said, “We have a major responsibility to ensure that public officers at all grades are exposed to the learning and development opportunities that will aid them in the execution of their duties. This particular offering is a reflection of our commitment to ensuring that all Government employees, regardless of their career, can access opportunities for development.”
Interim Director of the Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute, Dr. Connie E. George said, “VIPSLI is committed to building capacity throughout the service. We are putting strategic focus into ensuring the Public Service is filled with highly knowledgeable and capable officers.”
Throughout the two days, the officers received information that allowed them to understand the significance of preventative maintenance, identify critical maintenance tasks, developing effective preventative maintenance plans and improving safety practices. All attendees received official certificates, highlighting the significant milestone.
The completion of this cohort of attendees marks the beginning of a training programme that will be ongoing, ensuring that all Maintenance Officers have the opportunity to advance their skills and knowledge. A second cohort of officers will partake in the training on November 16 and 17.
