British Virgin Islands athlete Djimon Gumbs will be gearing up to participate in the Men’s Discus Throw Finals at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile today Monday, October 30.
284 Media’s Kamal Haynes spoke with Gumbs ahead of the event that is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. BVI time.
Gumbs expressed that he is ready to compete and said once he delivers on his technique during his three attempts, he is confident of landing a decent throw.
Gumbs also addressed the weather conditions in Chile, which is forecast to be around 15 degrees Celsius with wind speeds between 14 and 19 kilometres per hour around the time of his event.
As it relates to his competition, Djimon said he is excited to clash with some of the big names which include Fredrick Dacres of Jamaica who is ranked 6th in the world in the discus throw.
Haynes also spoke to Djimon’s Northwestern State University coach, Mike Heimerman.
Herimerman expressed confidence in Gumbs’ mental ability to overcome the cold weather conditions and said he expects the BVIslander to give his all while out on the field.
