Members of CCT’s Engineering Team made a commendable intervention that offered a second chance at life to a young dog that was callously abandoned by a woman in the Horsepath area of Tortola on Friday morning.
As the team went about their daily duties, they found themselves witness to a distressing and unusual incident of animal cruelty.
The woman in question emerged from a white SUV , blocking the road, and was seen carrying the dog with a piece of rope tightly tied around its neck.
She proceeded to approach some nearby bushes and callously threw the animal, still entangled by the rope, as far as her strength would allow, before hastily returning to her vehicle and speeding away.
CCT’s Rennie Phillips noticed the animal’s obvious distress as it struggled to climb back to safety but was hindered by the cruelly tied rope.
He told 284 Media that he “couldn’t, in good conscience, turn a blind eye” after witnessing the heartwrenching disposal of the live animal.
With assistance from his team members, he bravely descended into the bushes to rescue the suffering animal and promptly transported it to the Humane Society.
Upon examination at the shelter, it became evident that the animal had endured multiple signs of abuse, including indications that acid may have been poured onto its skin during a previous attempt to end its life.
Phillips, a known dog lover, told 284 Media that following this experience he intends to adopt the dog, and give it a new lease on life.
We commend CCT’s Engineering Team for their compassionate actions today.
