“NOBODY CAN LIVE OFF OF $6 AN HOUR”- HON. LORNA SMITH

Following the announcement to establish an ad hoc advisory committee to review the minimum wage in the Virgin Islands, the Deputy Premier and Minister of Financial Services, Labour and Trade, Honourable Lorna Smith OBE, sought to explain what the various aspects of the review will entail.

While the review of the minimum wage by the ad-hoc committee is just one part of the minimum wage conversation, when asked by our agency about enforcement, Hon. Smith bemoaned that enforcement is key.

The deputy premier stressed that the matter of minimum wage is not an easy one and that all aspects must be considered.
