The Government of the Virgin Islands intends to launch a Green Pledge Drive in the coming weeks as part of its plan to encourage residents and businesses to conform to the use of renewable energy products.
Premier and Minister for the Environment and Climate Change Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley said the drive will be used within the Public Service to demonstrate the government’s commitment to going green.
By utilizing this strategy, the premier is hopeful that the private sector and residents alike are motivated to follow the examples.
Premier Wheatley also spoke about the cost benefits of going green.
Former Premier Andrew Fahie had previously said that the territory stands to save approximately $80 million by 2025 if residents and businesses begin to adopt Green and SMART technology and practices.
