Former legislator “The Action Man” Mark Vanterpool is urging the Government of the Virgin Islands to begin much-needed upgrades to the Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island.
Speaking recently at an event attended by Communications and Works Minister Hon. Kye Rymer, Vanterpool stressed the importance of not becoming overwhelmed by the scope of renovating the entire airport but rather starting small with targeted improvements that would benefit current operations.
Specifically, he suggested expanding the runway over the waters off Beef Island to better accommodate American Airlines flights, which currently face operational constraints at the airport.
Incremental upgrades like these, the former legislator said, would provide immediate benefits to travellers while setting the stage for more ambitious long-term development plans.
