The Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) has unveiled an ambitious slate of projects for 2024, stating they are “filled with optimism and enthusiasm” for the year ahead.
In a recent statement, the RDA said the long-awaited redevelopment of the West End Ferry Terminal is expected to be just months away from contract signing. “This facility will meet the needs of stakeholders while providing an optimal first impression and improved visitor experience with expedient processing for ferry passengers and private vessels,” the statement read.
The RDA said its holistic approach will implement environmental, social and gender safeguards to consider the community impact alongside the economic benefits. “This long-awaited dream is poised to become a reality in the coming months,” they stated.
Additionally, the RDA anticipates a contract signing in early 2024 for the Trellis Bay Welcome Centre, a project done in partnership with the BVI Tourist Board aimed at bringing relief to visitors and residents.
The statement also outlined plans for an Agriculture and Fisheries Complex and Farmers’ Reservoir to assist with increased food production and sustainability. The RDA said the complex “will create a space for farmers and fisherfolk to sell produce, alongside required administrative facilities to support the needs of the sector.”
These RDA-led, government-steered projects are intended to support sustainable development and strengthen food security in the Virgin Islands.
