Deputy Governor David Archer Jr. will act in the position of Governor until January 29, 2024.
The announcement follows the departure of former Governor John Rankin whose tenure ended on January 18, 2024.
Archer is expected to act in the post of Governor until the arrival of Governor Designate Daniel Pruce, who is scheduled to be sworn in on January 29.
Speaking following the ceremony, Archer said, “I am honoured and humbled to have been sworn in by His Lordship the Honourable Justice Paul Webster, in the presence of Former Governor Rankin CMG, for the final time, to act in the capacity of Governor. I thank Mr. Rankin for his service to the Territory during his tenure and I wish him well as he retires from the Public Service.”
Archer’s appointment is in accordance with section 37 (1) (a) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007 which states, “During any period when the office of Governor is vacant, or the Governor is absent from the Virgin Islands or is for any other reason unable to perform the functions of his or her office, the Deputy Governor shall during His Majesty’s pleasure, act in the office of Governor and shall perform the functions of that office accordingly.”
