The H Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) will be launching a new satellite campus on Jost Van Dyke soon. The Jost Van Dyke campus will be located at the island’s newly constructed primary school.
Education Minister Sharie de Castro announced this new development during the JVD Primary School’s opening ceremony. She said the campus will provide residents access to higher education, training and certifications without traveling off-island.
Minister de Castro said she looks forward to Jost Van Dyke residents utilizing the campus for continued learning, and also hinted towards a similar initiative to unfold in Anegada.
The JVD satellite campus will offer a convenient way for residents to develop new skills and advance their education close to home.
HLSCC has long spoken of its commitment to making tertiary studies accessible for Sister Islands learners. While course offerings have not been confirmed yet, they are likely to include a mix of programmes tailored to community needs.
In late 2022, as HLSCC expanded its operations in Virgin Gorda to include Marine and Maritime Studies, and Culinary and Hospitality Studies, Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Arlene Smith-Thompson revealed the college’s intentions to extend these programme offerings to Jost Van Dyke and Anegada.
