Officials from the Ministry of Tourism recently met with representatives of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission to progress a unified Eastern Caribbean tourism policy.

The meetings were held January 15-20 and included   Team Leader and Tourism Technical Specialist Maria Fowell and supporting consultant and Tourism Policy and Development Advisor Dr. Jennifer Edwards.

Discussions focused on tourism and blue economy opportunities.

The talks were facilitated through the BVI’s associate membership in the OECS. Comprehensive input was gathered from the BVI Tourist Board, government entities, and tourism companies.

The goal was to solicit stakeholder perspectives on improving the sustainability of tourism and the blue economy over a 5-year period across the region.

Measures to enhance stakeholders’ roles, key policies, and enabling conditions were focal points.
