The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Ronald Brunton as its new Vice President of Academic Affairs.
In a media release on Monday, January 22, the College said the leadership change brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to academic excellence, marking a new chapter for the institution.
Dr. Brunton, an esteemed figure in the higher education sector, assumes his role as Vice President of Academic Affairs with a distinguished career spanning over 25 years.
The President of HLSCC, Dr. Richard Georges, expressed enthusiasm about Dr. Brunton’s appointment, highlighting his passion for higher education and proven leadership.
“Dr. Brunton’s commitment to student success, curriculum innovation, quality assurance, and research align seamlessly with the values and goals of our institution. We are confident that he will contribute significantly to the academic excellence and growth of the institution,” said President Georges.
In response to his appointment, Dr. Brunton expressed enthusiasm, stating, “I am truly honoured and excited to join HLSCC and look forward to collaborating with the talented faculty and staff to elevate the academic experience.”
As Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Brunton will spearhead efforts to promote innovation in teaching and learning. His focus will be on working closely with faculty and staff to shape the future of education and training at the College.
Among Dr. Brunton’s responsibilities will be providing academic leadership, overseeing instructional programs, policies, and services, and playing a pivotal role in areas such as student learning and success, faculty recruitment, program review, and curriculum development.
Dr. Brunton brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles, including serving as the Principal of the T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) in Grenada and as the Director of Academic Affairs at the University of the West Indies, School of Business and Applied Studies in Trinidad and Tobago (UWI-ROYTEC).
His extensive background includes leadership roles in higher education quality assurance and accreditation. Dr. Brunton served as the President of the Caribbean Area Network for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education (CANQATE) and was among the founding Directors at the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT).
Dr. Brunton, a published author with several peer-reviewed articles and co-edited works, holds a Ph.D. from the University of the West Indies, a Master of Philosophy (MPhil.), and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.
His research interests span various areas, including higher education policy, educational indicators, curriculum development, distance and online learning, quality assurance, and education’s role in national development.
As a seasoned academic, Dr. Brunton is actively engaged in presenting his scholarly work at regional and international conferences, seminars, and colloquia. His involvement extends beyond the classroom, with participation in numerous committees, technical working groups, editorial, and advisory bodies in the higher education sector across the region.
