HOA MEMBERS TO HONOUR MALONE IN SPECIAL SITTING ON THURSDAY

Members of the House of Assembly will honour the life and legacy of former legislator Carvin Malone during a special sitting of the House of Assembly on Thursday, January 25.

The session is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m. at the House of Assembly Chamber in Road Town, Tortola.

The BVI was immediately sent into mourning on Sunday, January 14 after the shocking news of Malone’s passing rocked the territory.

Malone’s contribution to politics in the BVI spans more than two decades, serving as the President of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) from 1999 to 2016 before being elected in the 2019 General Election where he served until 2023. During his time as a first-time legislator, Malone served as the Minister for Health and Social Development.

Shortly after the news, residents, government officials and charity organisations took to social media to extend their condolences to the family and loved ones of Malone.

Premier of the Virgin Islands Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley described Malone’s passing as shocking and heart-wrenching, and he labelled the former legislator as a champion for the Virgin Islands.

VIP’s President Sharia De Castro also penned a heartfelt condolence to Malone’s family as she credited the former president as one of the reasons for her involvement in politics.

Speaker of the House of Assembly, Corine George-Massicote in her statement on behalf of the members and staff of the House of Assembly described Malone’s contributions to the territory as immeasurable, stating that he left an indelible mark on both the BVI’s legislative landscape and on the hearts of the people he served.

Also reflecting on the life and legacy of Malone was First District Representative, Dr. the Honourable Karl Dawson. In an emotional video on social media, he referred to Malone as a friend and mentor who never once betrayed his trust.

Meanwhile, outside of the territory, the United States Virgin Islands Governor Albert Bryan Jr also sent his condolences on behalf of his government and residents of the USVI.

Bryan described Malone as a distinguished statesman and said it was also a pleasure to work with him while he served as the Minister for Health and Social Development.
