KPMG AWARDED AIRPORT DEVELOPMENT CONTRACT – TO COMPLETE BUSINESS CASE BY MAY

KPMG (BVI) has been awarded a contract by the Government of the Virgin Islands and the BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) to spearhead the long-awaited airport development project.

The BVIAA in a media release on Monday said the decision follows a rigorous tendering process that involved eight reputable companies, with KPMG (BVI) emerging as the preferred bidder.

The upcoming development works, crucial to the territory’s growth and connectivity, are set to commence with a targeted completion of the business case within the next three months. This phase according to the BVIAA, aligns seamlessly with the UK’s 5-case model, ensuring a comprehensive and strategic approach to the airport development.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the project reaching this pivotal stage, Minister of Communications and Works, Honourable Kye Rymer, emphasized the significance of adhering to the government’s protocols for effective financial management throughout the process.

“I am well pleased to know that we have persisted and have finally arrived at the stage where we can engage the services of a qualified contractor to chart the way forward with the airport development,” Rymer stated, underlining the importance of upholding policy principles.

Chairman of the BVIAA Board Theodore Burke, expressed his team’s commitment to a seamless and transparent process aligned with the government’s financial management protocols.

“We are dedicated to ensuring that every step taken in this project reflects our responsibility to the public we serve. The Board will continue to champion this project until it is brought to fruition,” said Burke.

The Airports Authority Managing Director Kurt Menal noted the history of the project and the information from the studies that were previously collected that will help to facilitate the process.

“This source of knowledge serves as a robust foundation for informed decision-making throughout the development process,” Menal stated.

He added, “The availability of this information not only streamlines the current project but also positions us strategically for long-term success. It ensures that every step taken is rooted in a deep understanding of our unique challenges and opportunities.”

The BVIAA said formalization of the partnership between the Airports Authority and KPMG (BVI) Ltd. is expected to take place in the upcoming days, noting that it will mark a pivotal milestone in its goal of having a modern airport facility in the BVI.
