In a proactive move to bolster safety measures and readiness, the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) recently orchestrated a comprehensive fire response drill at the Annex and Peebles Wing of the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital.
The drill, designed to evaluate staff responses, served as a critical opportunity to assess emergency protocols, with a focus on identifying areas for improvement. The exercise aimed to test their ability to swiftly and effectively react in high-stress situations.
The drill specifically targeted the Annex and Peebles Wing, excluding other outpatient medical service areas such as the Emergency Room and Dialysis Unit.
The activity was lead by Safety and Compliance Manager Ryan Ross.
In a recent release Dr. June Samuels, Acting CEO of the BVIHSA, emphasized the critical importance of being prepared for emergencies. “By conducting drills like this, we ensure that our staff is well-equipped to handle unexpected situations, providing optimal care and protection to all those we serve,” she said.
Expressing gratitude to the participating staff, Dr. Samuels stated, “By working together, we continue to strengthen our ability to provide exceptional healthcare services to the community.”
The BVIHSA also extended its appreciation to the BVI Fire and Rescue Services and all staff members who actively contributed to the drill’s success.
