FEDS AND LA RAICES DE CONSUELO SECURE 2024 DOMINICAN INDEPENDENCE TOURNAMENT TITLES

Feds of St. Croix and La Raices De Consuelo of the Dominican Republic emerged as the champions in the women’s and men’s divisions respectively at the 2024 Dominican Independence Tournament.

The women’s final unfolded at the E. Walwyn Brewley Ballpark in Tortola on Sunday, February 25, where Feds secured a commanding 12-2 victory against Fenix from the Dominican Republic. The winning pitcher, J. Castro, demonstrated her skills on the mound with 2 strikeouts, 1 walk, and 4 hits. On the opposing side, J. Medina, Fenix’s pitcher, notched 2 strikeouts, 7 walks, and 8 hits.

The men’s final witnessed La Raices De Consuelo’s dominance against Pirates, the reigning BVI national league champions, culminating in a resounding 10-0 victory. Rijo of La Raices showcased a stellar pitching performance, tallying 8 strikeouts, 2 walks, and allowing only 3 hits. Pirates’ Rico Penn faced a challenging matchup, recording no strikeouts, 7 walks, and conceding 7 hits.

The tournament showcased intense competition, highlighting the talent and competitive spirit of the participating teams from the Dominican Republic, St. Croix, Tortola and Virgin Gorda.

The tournament was a joint collaboration between local business Edge Reloaded and the Virgin Islands Softball and Baseball Association.
