In a thrilling display of athleticism, the Francis Lettsome Primary School once again asserted their dominance on the track and field, clinching victory at the 2024 Inter-Primary Schools Athletics Championships.
The event, held at the A. O Shirley Recreation Ground in Road Town, witnessed an electrifying showcase of talent as young athletes battled it out for glory on day 2 of the championships on Friday.
Entering the final day of the championships with a comfortable 16-point lead, Francis Lettsome Primary showcased their prowess, amassing a remarkable total of 300 points to secure their title defence with a commanding 42-point lead.
However, the battle for second place proved to be a fiercely contested affair, with last year’s runner-up, Joyce Samuel Primary, and Enis Adams Primary locking horns in a neck-and-neck race. Ultimately, it was the students from the Sixth District, Joyce Samuel Primary, who showcased exceptional resilience and skill to clinch the coveted second spot with a commendable total of 258 points. Meanwhile, Enis Adams Primary displayed a commendable performance to secure a respectable third position in the standings with 234 points.
Not to be overlooked, Bregado Flax Educational Centre demonstrated its competitive edge, rounding up the top four schools with 208 points.
Individual excellence shone brightly at the championships, with the Victrix Ludorum title being shared between Kaeja Creque of the Robinson O’Neal Memorial Primary School and Maykasha Hypolite of the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School. Both athletes exhibited stellar performances, accumulating 30 points each, and leaving an indelible mark on the competition.
Meanwhile, the Victor Ludorum honour was claimed by Ackeel Boreland of the Ivan Dawson Primary School, who displayed dominance throughout the championships, matching the remarkable feat of 30 points.
The 2024 Inter-Primary Schools Athletics Championships not only provided a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents but also served as a testament to the power of sports in fostering camaraderie, discipline, and determination among the youth.
