The British Virgin Islands may be in for a bout of heavy rainfall over the next few days, as a trough sitting near the Territory enhances shower chances starting as early as Thursday night.
According to a recent statement from the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), model data suggests the islands could see over 2 inches of accumulated rainfall from Thursday evening through Monday.
“Isolated showers and periodic heavy downpours are likely throughout this period,” the DDM added.
The Antigua Meteorological Services reported the following.
“A trough in the vicinity of Hispaniola will result in moisture and instability being pulled across the area and will therefore trigger unsettled conditions during the next 24 hours. Possible rainfall accumulation for the forecast period is 12.7 to 25.4 mm or 0.5 to 1 inch.”
The wet pattern comes ahead of the official start of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season on June 1.
