PROMINENT JVD BUSINESSWOMAN GERTRUDE CALLWOOD HAS DIED

Prominent and longstanding businesswoman Gertrude Callwood has died. The news was announced via Gertudes Beach Bar and Grill’s Facebook post Sunday August 18, 2024.

The post stated, “Good day beautiful family and friends of Mama Gertrude of Gertrudes Beach Bar.  It is with sad news that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother, sister, aunt, granny, friend.  Please, we are asking if you have any memories or pictures of mama Gertrude to please flood her timeline at this moment.  Thank you.  May the memories of her passionate love remain in our heart forever.”

Ms. Callwood was the owner of Gertrude’s Beach Bar and Grill which has been a staple in the Jost Van Dyke Community and hospitality industry for decades.

2nd District representative Hon. Melvin Mitch Turnbull in an invited comment said, “Gertrude was a trailblazer and a fun-loving individual who cherished her family and took great joy in serving the visitors and guests at her world renowned business Gertrude’s Beach Bar & Restaurant in White Bay, Jost Van Dyke. Our bond grew even stronger during the pandemic, a time we spent together in prayer, singing and deep reflection. She will be tremendously missed, not only by her children and extended family but by all the people of Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands, and the many friends she made around the world.”

He added, “Gertrude cared deeply for people and had a passion for seeing the BVI governed with integrity. She often spoke candidly about the current state of affairs, longing for leaders to steer the Territory “straight rather than the crooked path it seemed to be on.”

He further extended his condolences saying, “On behalf of my family, myself, and the wider Second District community, I extend our heartfelt condolences to her family.”

The owners, management and staff of CCT, BVI Cable Ltd. and 284 Media express sincere condolences to the family of the late Gertrude Callwood.
