BVI DELEGATION IN THE CAYMAN ISLANDS FOR SOTIC 2024

Clive McCoy, Director of Tourism for the British Virgin Islands is leading a small delegation to the join in meetings and events for the annual State of The Industry Conference (SOTIC) in the Cayman Islands from 2nd to 6th September. 

Presented by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), the annual conference is one of the highlights of a packed week that also includes business sessions for the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and Ministerial Council on 2nd and 3rd September. SOTIC commenced on Wednesday, 4th September, featuring a diverse lineup of speakers, panelists, and experts sharing insights on a range of topics, including sustainability, technology and innovation, aviation and connectivity, cruise tourism, leadership and legacy, and business continuity planning.  Mr. McCoy presented on the topic of Business Continuity Planning on the opening day of the conference, after attending the CTO business meetings.

The British Virgin Islands delegation also includes Natalie Penn-Lake, Standards & Training Manager, BVITBFC; Calvin Smith, Product Officer (Transportation), BVITBFC; Naomi Onwufuju, the 2023 winner of the Tourism Youth Congress; Adrianne Thomas, the BVI representative at the CTO Tourism Youth Congress; and Lucena Weekes, English Teacher from Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS).

“The business meetings were very productive and informative, and I was pleased to serve as a resource-person to share my knowledge on the experiences we have had in the Territory that have shaped our business continuity planning.  I am also looking forward to seeing our Junior Ambassador of Tourism, Ms. Adrianne Thomas represent us at the highly anticipated CTO Tourism Youth Congress,” said Mr. McCoy commenting on the week’s activities.

On Thursday, 5th September, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, attention will shift to the CTO Tourism Youth Congress, where Adrianne Thomas of Elmore Stoutt High School will compete to become the top regional presenter, aiming to follow in the footsteps of her predecessor. The week’s events will conclude with a closing ceremony on Thursday evening and a wrap-up press conference on Friday morning, 6th September.
